The Haven Homes project aims to convince large-scale real estate developers to build Broad Appeal Specialty Housing (BASH) to reduce problems caused by growing homeownership costs.
To prove the concept, we are building housing that models how specialty features can be cost-effectively incorporated into new commercial multi-family apartments as well as existing houses, creating homes that are lifechanging to a specific group of people, yet still appeal to a general audience.
For the first housing project, Lion Canyon, we have focused on two specialties: trauma-informed housing and pet-friendly housing. To that end, we followed principles of trauma-informed design to make homes that can help their inhabitants heal from past negative experiences. Furthermore, we developed several new animal-centric architectural concepts that benefit not just the people and pets who will live in these homes, but also the property owners, which makes these features financially viable for rental properties and affordable housing projects.
